Template
Builder - Features eWord Development's Template
Builder is a Microsoft Word add-in suitable for use with Word
2000, 2002 and Word 2003.
Template Builder provides the designer with access to a range of
powerful features
integrated into a four step wizard:
Blank or existing documents Ability to start from a blank page or to import an existing document's
layout, text & images.
This enables the designer build templates quickly & easily using existing
document layouts.
Flexible
input fields
Template Builder allows the designer to define input fields to prompt for and capture
input
from the document author in a dialog.
Input fields include:
Text - to allow capture of individual items of text with
provision for a default value. Text fields can be made mandatory; single or
multiple line as well s having a default value.
Combo
Box - creates a dropdown list on the template dialog. Combo Boxes entries can be specified by either:
Fixed List These are entered into Template Builder as a fixed list using 'List Values' e.g. Leave type of Recreation, Sick or Maternity
File References This allows paragraphs of text to be selectively added to the document based
on the author's selection. This approach also allows for the content to be
easily edited without modify the template. e.g. Product details selectively added to the document based on the author's
selection.
Logical Logical fields (ie yes or no) sets a
check box in the resultant document based on the author's selection in the
template dialog.
Template 'Additional Features' Template Builder provides a range of options to set 'additional
features' for the template being designed including:
Typing prompt These simple prompts guide the document author directly to the area
that requires their attention. Template Builder's "Start typing here" prompt
can be added one or more times as required within the template.
On-form instructions These simple but key instructions assist the document author.
Template Builder allows the template designer to set and edit the on
form instruction text.
A
completion message This facility allows the designer to include a final prompt to
the document author
On-form logo
Providing the organisations’ logo on the template dialog
reinforces branding, or can be used to identify the class of
template.
Integration with other systems Other options that can be included in custom versions of Template
Builder are presented on this screen. Typically these include custom
integration with information systems to further facilitate the creation
of corporate documents.
Examples include integration with:
- Client Relationship Management system to directly extract client
address details, or integration with a Human Resources system -
IT Infrastructure database such as Microsoft’s Active Directory or
Novell’s eDirectory to programically populate user’s details. -
Classification schema tools, such as
Synercon
Management Consulting’s
a.k.a.®,
to allow authors to apply classification directly to correspondence at
the time of creation.
Template Builder as a development tool
Template Builder generated templates are pure VBA with standards-based naming
conventions. As the generated code is accessible, and our licensing policy
does not provide distribution or coding restrictions for internal use, your
internal software development team can "fine-tuning" Template Builder templates
to suit specific requirements, reducing lead time and resource requirements for
Word template development.
